Adelman Risk Management Group, LLC was founded April, 2005 in Memphis, Tennessee to provide risk management and education to the healthcare industry. The group’s risk management practices focus on a formal, comprehensive “expectations management” program designed to assist families to become more realistic in their expectations and to assist healthcare administration and staff to be more responsive to patients and to minimize their litigation risk.

The objective is to ensure that families understand the realities of the nursing home environment so that possible emotional reactions to events that may not meet unrealistic expectations can be explored prior to admission and complaints minimized. The facility receives training and education to describe the aging process to families and the nursing facility’s role in the process. Education is also important in the acute care setting, and training and education are provided to treating physicians, discharge planners and other healthcare providers who are an integral part of the long-term care environment.

The program includes an assessment of the admission process and existing systems for responding to the needs of patients and their families. An individualized facility curriculum for implementing a successful expectations management program is designed to include training materials, admission contracts and video programs. It is also the group’s mission to assist healthcare administration and staff in identifying and implementing culture change activities which support a more meaningful nursing home experience for the elderly.
